About the Reservoir Journal

The Reservoir Journal (or "The Res") was started on a whim during the school year of 2018. Meeting every Wednesday throughout the year after school, with two Editors-in-Chief and a handful of genre editors, the Res published a single volume. It was a triumph that seemed impossibly large at the time, but throughout the summer and into the 2019 school year, the founding members of the Reservoir Journal began to think of a new way of bringing the fine arts to Scituate High School. A more effective, faster, and free way; something that could reach more people in a shorter amount of time. Something that could not be just a once-a-year occurrence, but a regular part of student life. Thus, the Res went digital.

At the Res we believe writing, art, photography, and everything in between to be the pillars of life. Self-expression is allowed for us through the words we type or the colors we add or the flowers we zoom in on. Humans are social creatures; because of that, we want to share our interests with our fellow humans. We want to engage with one another as much as we can, and learn about one another to the fullest extent. In this technological age, communication has expanded from the good old face-to-face conversation to the point where we can communicate with people across the world in mere milliseconds. And for our good friends the Neanderthals, we can now express ourselves and learn about others through the many means of multi-media, rather than inarticulate grunts and wall paintings made of crushed bugs.

At the Res, we strive to bring people closer to understanding each other and the world through art, literature, and photography. We strive to display for the world the creations of confident artists who are not afraid to communicate. Thank you for investing your time in the Res, and enjoy your visit to our humble abode.
